Whether you have I-tip or Weft extensions, they both need to be maintained properly at home to extend the longevity of their lifespan and health. Both are preferred to be moved up in a 6-to-9-week time frame for the safety of your natural hair and to prevent your normal color appointment from turning into a color correction. *For those of you who have invested in our temporary extensions, such as our clip in hair extensions and halos, this information is also for you as far as the at-home product care goes.
Let’s start with our I-tip Hair Extensions guests:
6 to 9-week maintenance unless advised sooner if you have finer hair.
Bead changes are encouraged every 3rd maintenance appointment to ensure continued strength to prevent slipping and color fading.
Using proper products will not only protect your hair extensions from color fading but will also maintain their hydration, moisture and preventing split ends.
Our Weft Extensions (Hand-tied and/or Machine Wefts):
6 to 9-week maintenance unless advised sooner if you have finer hair
Beads and string are replaced during each move-up.
Using recommended take-home products will not only protect your hair extensions from color fading, but will also maintain their hydration, moisturization and prevent split ends.
A common theme we have seen lately in our I-tip guests is the need for new beads sooner than usual. There are a few factors that come into play if you are one of these ladies. If you are using a shampoo full of additives. This would be a great time to toss the box store shampoo and invest with a proper shampoo and other items from our studio.
Styling wear and tear. We hope your hot tools aren't hitting you at the scalp, but as our hair grows out, so does the beaded extension. Always section properly, take the heat down a notch and keep your iron lower than the bead when styling. This is also a great time to check your blow-dryer out. It should have a LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH heat setting on it. If not, we can hook you up with a blow-dryer that we recommend for your hair and your extensions.
Here is one you may not have expected but it is very important! ANY medication that you are taking orally goes through the body and comes out in our hair. All those chemicals are carried through your bloodstream and carried right to the hair follicle. Several medications, like antidepressants, birth control supplements and acne medications, can be the culprits of this, as can Vitamin A, and narcotics. These toxins are so potent, that they will not wash out, and in fact, hair follicle drug testing is a much more effective and reliable method than blood and/or urine testing (for drugs), and can detect toxins that have been in the follicle for months.
